The upcoming 2011-2012 season includes the premiere of “Threads” by members of the New York Youth Symphony Chamber Music Program at Carnegie Hall Weill Recital Hall; the China premieres of “Four to One” with Nouvel Ensemble Moderne at the Shanghai Conservatory New Music Week and “Three by Three” with pianist Hui Wu in Xi’an; performances of “Present Tense” for sinfonietta at the Sixty-Fifth Aldeburgh Festival of Music and Arts and by the Cornell Festival Chamber Orchestra at Cornell; West-coast premiere of “One Voice” with the University of Southern California Contemporary Ensemble; additional performances by the Momenta Quartet, Ithaca College Wind Ensemble, Ithaca Brass, Cornell Wind Symphony, Keene State College Concert Band, Indiana University Brass Choir, Banda Sociale di Cavalese (Italy), and the commercial release of “Imaginings” on saxophonist James Noyes’ CD “Imaginings."

Eric’s “Walls of Light” for chamber ensemble was selected to be performed at the 2012 World Music Days in Belgium (October 25-November 4, 2012). More information on the performance coming soon.
Eric’s “Four to One” for string quartet was awarded the American Modern Ensemble Composition Competition. The work will be performed by the American Modern Ensemble in New York (date TBA).
Eric is co-organizing an interdisciplinary conference entitled “Music: Cognition, Technology, Society” to take place at Cornell University (May 11-13, 2012). “Four to One” for string quartet was also selected for the 2011 Shanghai Conservatory New Music Week in Shanghai, China (September 25-29, 2011). Composer mentors for the festival included Tan Dun. The Nouvel Ensemble Moderne performed the work at the festival and offer a repeat performance in Montreal in December 2011. Earlier in August, Pianist Hui Wu gave the China premiere of “Three by Three” in Zhuhai and Xian.
Eric was invited to give a guest composer lecture on his music at the composers forum in the Dartmouth Music Department and to give composition lessons to graduate student composers.
“Walls of Light” was selected as a winner of the 2011 League of Composers Competition. The work was also featured on NPR Music/WQXR Q2 Radio’s “The Mix: 100 Composers Under 40” broadcast.
Tanglewood Music Center premiered “Timbered Bells” (a Tanglewood Music Center commission) for symphonic brass ensemble and percussion on July 3, 2011 in Seiji Ozawa Hall, with Robert Trevino conducting.
“Icarus Dreamt” for orchestra was awarded the ASCAP Foundation Rudolf Nissim Prize. To see the press release, click here.
“Three by Three” for solo piano was awarded a 2011 ASCAP Foundation Morton Gould Young Composer Award.
Eric received a New York Youth Symphony First Music Commission for a new chamber work, “Threads,” to be premiered by members of the New York Youth Symphony Chamber Music Program in Carnegie Hall Weill Recital Hall on April 24, 2011.
Eric was selected for the Aldeburgh Music Britten-Pears Programme Composition Workshop, directed by Oliver Knussen, Colin Matthews and Michael Gandolfi. “Present Tense” for chamber orchestra was premiered by the Britten-Pears Contemporary Performance Ensemble.
The Hudson Valley Music Club presented a composer portrait concert in March 2011 of works by Eric Nathan for violin, piano and soprano including “Three by Three,” “Wing Over Wing,” “Sands Flowing,” and “Remembrances”. See the Calendar page for information.
“Jump Start” for symphonic winds is featured at the British Association of Symphonic Bands and Wind Ensembles (BASBWE) London Festival 2011 in Bromley, UK on March 27, 2011. Eric will conduct the work with the Cornell Wind Symphony in November 2011.
“Imaginings” for soprano saxophone and piano will be released as the title track on saxophonist James Noyes’ CD “Imaginings” to be released in January 2012. For more information, click here. The work was also broadcast on the WSKG television show “Expressions” in October 2011.
